Boundless Futures Foundation awards transformative grant to Kiva and partners to support female founders committed to addressing social issues
$100,000 Her Village grant sparks funding opportunities and the creation of a comprehensive impact study
Traverse City, Mich., March 6, 2025 – Boundless Futures Foundation today awarded a $100,000 Her Village grant to Kiva, a global nonprofit unlocking capital through crowdfunded loans for individuals and entrepreneurs. The transformative grant will spark the growth of women-founded businesses across the U.S. that also address social or environmental issues.
Through a Her Village grant, Boundless Futures Foundation will partner with Kiva to support female social entrepreneurs in the following ways:
Establish a revolving loan fund that will be featured on the Kiva website for U.S.-based female founders and social entrepreneurs. Social entrepreneurs are business owners who put an emphasis on creating social value, in addition to economic value.
Fund a co-sponsored impact study to gauge the effects of social entrepreneurs, specifically women founders, and their significance on society.
Collaborate on strategic approaches to the systemic issues that female founders face and elevate the conversation around thoughtful ways to remove those barriers.
“We restructured our Her Village grant for nonprofits so that it would have a larger impact on the complex issues female founders face and help address those systemic issues,” said Soon Hagerty, founder and president, Boundless Futures Foundation. “We are looking forward to collaborating with Kiva on a more engaging, holistic approach to helping female founders overcome barriers to success and to scaling their social enterprises.”
Women-led social enterprises looking to scale face an added challenge: women-founded businesses receive only two percent of venture capital dollars in the U.S.
“Women-led social enterprises are driving solutions to global challenges from climate change to economic inequality, yet they face persistent barriers to funding,” said Vishal George, CEO, Kiva. “Through our partnership with Boundless Futures Foundation, we’re excited to expand access to capital and advance research to further demonstrate the transformative impact of these incredible entrepreneurs.”
The announcement to assist female founders dedicated to doing social good in their businesses is in celebration of International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 8.
Boundless Futures Foundation has awarded $685,000 in Her Village grants to nonprofits and EmpowHer grants to female company founders since it began in late 2023.
