Frequently Asked Questions
Kiva is a nonprofit that knows funding can be a force for good. We connect everyday people with changemakers on the front lines, crowdfunding loans that unlock solutions to poverty, climate change, gender inequality, and forced displacement. Because when money flows to the right people, real change follows.
Loans create agency, not dependency. They give people control and dignity. Instead of waiting for help, people are able to build the future they envision, with the trust and flexibility to do it their way. (Source: Center for Financial Inclusion, “Financial Inclusion and Human Dignity,” 2022)
Yes, the recipient of a Kiva card needs to create a Kiva account to redeem and use the funds. If the recipient doesn't have a Kiva account, they will be prompted to create one when they redeem the card.
